- Within the Muslim world, the opposite of Iran and Pakistan is Modernization without Westernization(Indonesia, UAE, Turkey). Those are the two polar ideologies competing for the hearts and minds of the Muslim world, and both sides of the debate are not afraid to be vocal about their side of things. We don't mind the latter, because we think modernization will bring about a slight liberalization of muslim culture as a whole. The certain radical elements that you can find in Pakistan can also be found in Jordan or Turkey, but I think we've just assigned Pakistan and Iran to be the ambassadors of all the things we hate about muslim culture because its good politics.
That said... there is between 70 to 150 million loony muslims(5 - 10% of Islam) who lean towards the radical fringes of Islam preached in madrasah's throughout the middle east, but Pakistan and Iran have those radical elements, alongside everything else we hate about Muslim culture IN THAT PART OF THE WORLD.
And also... Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Iran epitomizes the women-hating culture we hate here in the US. - Because fear is a very powerful emotion that takes precedence over other emotions and over intellect, and the idea that someone could kill them at any time because of jihad makes people very fearful and very angry and suspicious of all Muslims. It doesn't matter what positive things anyone says about Muslims because the fear is foremost in their minds. That's not fair, but it's very human. 9/11 had a profound effect on Americans even though it was an act of the minority. You might say that in this case the few have spoiled it for the many.
