Resolved Question

I don't know what breed my hamster is?

I don't have pictures, but I can describe both of them.

They are both dwarf hamsters. One is all white with red eyes (I think it's albino). The other is a dark grey/black with a darker stripe running down it's back, with black eyes. The pet store classified them as Roborovski dwarf hamsters, but I don't think so because the colors are not typical robo colors. I'm thinking they might be Campbells Russian dwarf hamsters, but my hamsters' behaviors do not line up with what I read on the internet about Russian dwarves. Did the pet store mess up or am I just being paranoid?

Well first off I think I can safely say.. neither of those are a robo!! petstores are often very vague about breeds as they basically dont "need" to know much in order to sell them.
Do they look like this:

these are both campbells russian, and are very different to robos, I am not sure what you mean by behaviour difference? :) Have a look at this site>
http://www.hamsters.co.uk/dwarf_campbell…
it gives lots of info, and you can click on "behaviour" for more info in that area.

dont worry - even if this is not right, most dwarf hamsters have similar care needs so I am sure it is not that important. Goodluck :)

  • well yes the white with red eyes is a definite albino (if it looks like this...)

    (the white one).

i can tell you that none of those are roborovskis - i know cus i've just spent the last 5 months of my life researching them cus i'm getting them for christmas. besides robos are like a browny grey colour and white usually.
no thy're not typical robo colour anyway, robos are browngrey and sometimes they come in a rare white colour. so no not robo.
pet shops do notcare and will not care what type the hamster is so long as it has sold. so dont rely on them.
if your dark grey looks like this then its a campbell:
    http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=ht…
    or something like that...
the only other main type i can think of is the chinese dwarf - although its not dark grey but it does have like a stripe running down the back...
    http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=ht…
cus its not a syrian cus syrians dont have stripes down their back.
maybe - maybe it IS a robo - but a very special robo. if the pet shop is right. cus then all hamsters are different - some very different. without pictures i cant really say much...
anyway goodluck! isuggest looking up bout every single typeof hamster on the internet lol XD goodluck!
basically robos ar incredibly small and extremely fast. the other dwarfs are still small, not as fast. robos love to run. the others like to climb and dig more.
finally all hamsters havve different personalitys. like they usually say that girl hamsters are more active than boys. WELL my boy was more active than my girl so what can they say!!?? so yeah their behaviour is similar anyway. hamsters are hamsters lol. they all like to run dig do whatever :)
