Resolved Question

♪Hey Writers♫ Do you know how your story will end before you start writing it?

I'm writing a series, so I not only have to know how I want the singular book to end but the series as a whole. To answer your question I would say yes. If you don't know where your character is supposed to end then how will you direct their path?

  • Mine is weird. Normally I know how it will "end" as in, I know how to resolve the central conflict, but I don't know how to wrap everything up. You know what I mean? For example, I might have a story about a guy who fights and evil queen (or whatever). I might know how he defeats her, because I built up to it since the beginning. But I might not know whether he dies fighting her or not or whatever.

  • I almost always surprise myself with the endings of books. There are always certain things I want in the end, but I never know exactly what I will come up with to lead up to that point. Whenever I try to plan out my story completely, I always end up stopping or failing the story epically. So I just don't plan!

  • Not always...I like to plan out most of the story but I like to keep the ending a surprise..Sometimes I plan an ending and then it turns out to be completely different...

People say to keep the readers in the dark and then make the ending surprise and shock them...Sometimes it does that to me aswell as the reader...

  • before starting to write, set out the plot so you wont be caught out, you can change things as you go along, but at least you have a template to refer to xD

  • Yes - always.
I usually plan out the ending before I start the story; so I can work up to it - I always know the last sentence.

  • almost always. I usually know the beginning, a scene or two in the middle, and the ending. the rest...makes itself up as I go along. :)

  • I know how I want it to end. Usually though when I write my story it changes as my ending usually does as well.

  • if I plan well, yes.

if I write how I usually do, no. (but it's a really bad idea)
